In December, Council on Aging participated in a program run by Home Instead Senior Care where it collected, wrapped and delivered gifts from the holiday wish lists of older adults at senior apartment buildings in its service area.
In all, 137 older adults in three senior apartment buildings in COA’s service area received gifts through the agency’s participation in the program.
In Clinton County, 84 older adults who live at Prairie View Apartments in Wilmington received gifts.
In Hamilton County, 53 older adults who live at AHEPA 127 II apartments in Mt. Healthy and 25 at Edison Apartments in Avondale received gifts.
“Seeing the excitement of the people who received gifts from us was very heartwarming,” said Sharon Weis, who organized COA’s gift collection, wrapping and delivery. “They were so thankful to receive items that many of us take for granted, such as cleaning supplies, socks, pajamas and slippers.”
In a note to COA, one Prairie View resident wrote, “Just wanted to thank everyone for all the gifts that made so many people happy, and myself. What a wonderful surprise.”
