Council on Aging’s innovative transportation coordination service, home52 Transportation, was recently selected by USAging as an innovative transportation model to be showcased on the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center website, www.nadtc.org.
The goal of the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center is to promote the availability and accessibility of transportation options for older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers.
home52 Transportation is an innovative model that enhances specialized transportation accessibility and fosters collaboration among regional providers. Targeting older adults and individuals with disabilities, the program offers hands-on and through-the-door assistance, same-day transportation, real-time tracking, and communication with providers. The program coordinates multiple transportation providers, demanding high service quality, and received recognition through pilot funding from the Federal Transit Administration.
By addressing the limitations of public transportation, home52 provides accessible vehicles, personalized support, and frequent communication with riders, drivers and medical facilities. This approach enhances and supports livability through improved healthcare access and social connectedness for individuals with specialized needs.
