Popular Own Your Future workshop series offered online this year
Since 2010, Council on Aging (COA) has offered its popular Own Your Future educational workshop series in an in-person format. However, this fall the program is moving online. Participants will access the live sessions on a tablet, personal computer or other smart devices.
While the access is changing, the aim of the program remains the same: to help people plan for long-term care, protect their assets, and understand what living options and services are available to them as they age and their care needs change. After all, 70 percent of us will need long-term care during our lives.
Series content is appropriate for those of any age who are thinking about retirement (or are already retired), expecting to provide help to aging parents or a spouse, caregiving for older or disabled loved ones, or expecting to live a long life.
The live sessions will take place on three consecutive Wednesdays, 5-7:30 p.m., beginning September 16. Presentations from three local experts will provide accurate, unbiased information to help participants make informed decisions about their own long-term care needs and wishes.
- Wednesday, September 16: Importance of long-term care planning and estate planning
Dennison Keller, Elder Law Attorney, from the Law Practice of Dennison Keller, LLC, discusses advance directives, guardianships, wills, trusts, power of attorney, and Medicare/Medicaid.
- Wednesday, September 23: Strategies for paying for long-term care
Gregory L. Hoernschemeyer, CLU, Senior Vice President at HORAN, will share strategies for paying for long-term care to ensure that individual needs and wishes are met.
- Wednesday, September 30: Care options
Ann Sutton Burke, MPA, CMC, Director of Aging and Caregiving Services for Jewish Family Services of Cincinnati, will address options and settings for long-term care, as well as community resources.
How to register
Registration is required. Those interested may register at www.help4seniors.org/OYF . The program is offered free of charge, but participants are asked to consider making a donation at registration to help defray program costs.
Participants will also receive access to a toolkit containing information, checklists and resources designed to help create a long-term care plan of their own.
