Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The 2019 theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
- Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
As our nation’s older adult population continues to grow, communities that adapt to meet changing needs and encourage the contributions of older adults will only grow stronger. By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks and lives.
All this month, Council on Aging has been participating in community events across our region focused on promoting the health, well-being and independence of older adults. Visit our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds as we share information and resources from our region to help older adults Connect, Create and Contribute.
Also this month, the Ohio Department on Aging (ODA) is encouraging people to share images that show how Ohioans continue to connect, create and contribute across the state. So, snap a selfie – or have someone take your picture – then post it to social media using the hashtags #OAM19 and #OhioSeniorsRock. ODA will look for posts with these hashtags and share them on its social media sites, so post early and post often!
