Council on Aging (COA) recently became a partner of Hamilton County Public Health’s (HCPH) WeTHRIVE! initiative, which strives to improve the health, safety and vitality of communities within the HCPH service area.
HCPH launched WeTHRIVE! in 2009 with a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since then, they have grown the initiative from three participating Hamilton County communities to 23.
In 2016, HCPH added the partner group to which COA now belongs. Partners are community organizations concerned with health or safety. The role of partners is to contribute expertise and resources to each other, WeTHRIVE!, and the community-driven health and safety initiatives supported by WeTHRIVE!.
A sampling of the initiatives to which WeTHRIVE! has provided support, guidance and resources includes: sidewalk construction for safer walks to school, recycling programs, tobacco-free initiatives, drug take-back days and chronic disease prevention programs.
