Council on Aging’s 2017 Annual Report includes data, photos and personal stories that highlight our mission to enhance people’s lives by assisting them to remain independent at home through a range of quality services.
The report focuses on programs that help us achieve this mission, including the Ohio Home Care Waiver program. This program is an in-home long-term care option for financially eligible children and adults who have significant disabilities and/or mental health needs. Council on Aging provides case management services to individuals enrolled in the program, including four-year-old Liam, whose story you can read in the report.
COA’s report highlights a year of hard-won advocacy victories that preserved choice, independence and stability for vulnerable individuals both locally and statewide.
- 72 percent of Hamilton County voters approved the first increase in the county’s senior services tax levy since 2008. The levy funds more than 90 percent of the county’s Elderly Services Program and has been losing revenue for the last 10 years, serving fewer seniors as a result. With the increase, the county can begin to help more seniors remain safe and independent in their homes.
- FastTrack Home, COA’s innovative program to help hospitalized seniors connect with essential in-home services, expanded from Clinton County into three Hamilton County hospitals and received the Health Collaborative’s Leadership in Quality Improvement Award.
- Ohio’s Area Agencies on Aging worked with legislators and advocates to stop a proposed change to Ohio’s long-term care delivery system that would have moved older adults and people with disabilities who access long-term care services and supports via Mediaid onto a managed care plan, similar to MyCare Ohio.
As the Area Agency on Aging for Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton and Warren counties, Council on Aging is in our community every day, working with seniors, people with disabilities, their families and caregivers. In 2017, COA:
- Provided support to more than 21,000 people to help them remain independent in their homes
- Responded to 46,843 requests for information and referral to community resources
- Contracted with 324 organizations to provide more than one million hours of home care services
- Provided nearly 1.5 million meals to seniors via congregate and home-delivered meals programs
- Provided 204,311 transportation trips for medical and senior center activities
- Helped 2,934 hospital and nursing home patients regain independence in home and community-based settings
In addition to our organization annual report, we also produce annual reports for the Elderly Services Programs in Butler, Clinton, Hamilton, and Warren counties. COA administers the program via contracts with county commissioners. These reports include client stories and photos along with demographic and financial information.
