In its seventh year, Council on Aging’s Own Your Future workshop brings together experts to help retirement age adults understand the importance of planning ahead for long-term care needs and giving them the tools they need to get started on their own plan.
Own Your Future 2017 toolkit |
More than 145 individuals attended two Own Your Future workshops in northern and eastern parts of Hamilton County, this past September. Three expert speakers covered topics including estate and financial planning, Medicare and Medicaid, advance directives, and long-term care options. This year, Ann Sutton Burke of Jewish Family Services joined the list of expert speakers, sharing her knowledge on Care Options and eight core knowledge areas. Each attendee received a toolkit to help them develop a long-term care plan of their own.
Through a survey completed at the end of the workshop, many attendees commented that they valued the information they received and had a better understanding of legal paperwork and terminology surrounding long-term care. They also stated that planning with family is very important. Most gave the workshop top marks as excellent, with 95 percent of attendees saying the workshop was excellent or very good at broadening their understanding of long-term care planning.
