As a participant in Cincinnati Magazine’s 2016 Cincinnati Gives Challenge, Council on Aging (COA) received $1,950 in monetary support from 16 generous donors.
COA and more than 90 other local non-profit organizations participated in the crowd fundraising challenge, which kicked off Nov. 29, #GivingTuesday, and ran through Dec. 27. In all, the challenge raised nearly $250,000 for area non-profits.
The donations made to COA during the challenge support programs that provide in-home care services to frail seniors throughout our region, such as home-delivered meals, transportation to the doctor, wheelchair ramps, and help with housekeeping and bathing. These basic but critical services are not covered by Medicare and can make the difference between being able to remain independent at home or having to move to a nursing facility. The services supplement care that is provided by families and are a lifeline for seniors without family nearby to help them. Annually, nearly 13,000 older adults are able to remain in their homes with the help of these services.
To everyone who made a donation to COA during the challenge – and at other times throughout 2016: Thank you for your help making a difference for seniors in need!
